Baran Serhiy was the head of Logistics of 13th Battalion of territorial defense, Chernihiv Oblast ‘Chernigov-1 ", junior sergeant.
He was born on 17 October, 1970 in the village of Bogdanovka, Nizhyn district of Chernihiv region. He graduated the high school in the village of Peremoha, Nizhyn district and vocational school as the specialty "mechanic".
He passed the military service in frontier troops of KGB in Central Asian border district (Turkmen SSR). During the service he was wounded.
He worked in the collective farm named after Pryadko.
On 28 April 2014 he was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served as chief of logistics of the 13th battalion of territorial defense, Chernihiv Oblast ‘Chernihiv 1 "(military unit field mail V2278, November 2014 - 13th separate mechanized infantry battalion of the 1st Tank Brigade of the 8th Army Corps Armed Forces of Ukraine).
Since May 2014 he took part in anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine.
On August 19, 2014 Junior Sergeant Baran was seriously wounded by shrapnel during the shelling of MLRS "Grad" in the Luhansk region. First he was treated at the Kharkiv hospital, later he was transferred to Lviv. In the Lviv military hospital Junior Sergeant Baran underwent several operations. But despite the efforts of doctors wounded condition remained serious, and eventually his heart could not stand. On 9 September, 2014 Serhiy Baran died.
On 11 September , 2014 he was buried in the cemetery of the village Bogdanivka, Nizhyn district, Chernihiv region.
He was awarded the Order "For courage" III class (15.5.2015, posthumously).
In the village Peremoha, Nizhyn district on the building of secondary school (street Youth, 7), where he studied, and in the village of Bogdanivka on the house where he lived, the memorial plaque was established.
The wife, two sons and a daughter were left.
