Bodnaryuk Oleksandr Vasyl‘ovych was the driver of a cannonball artillery battery of the 80th individual assault brigade of the High-Military Allied Army of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, junior sergeant.
He was born on 14 September, 1979, in the village Prigorodok, Khotyn district, Chernivtsi region. Subsequently, the family moved to Anadoly village, Khotyn district. In 1994, he graduated the 9th form of a secondary school in the village of Anadoly, Khotyn district, then - the Department of Mechanization of Agriculture of the Khotyn Agricultural College (now - Khotyn technical college of the Podilsky state agricultural and technical university) and received a diploma in mechanical engineering.
He passed the regular military service in the ranks of the National Guards of Ukraine.
In July 2014, he was mobilized to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The service was held in the 80th separate aeromobile regiment of the High-Military Allied Army of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (now - 80th separate assault and assault brigade, military unit A0284, the city of Lviv).
Since the summer of 2014, he participated in the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine. Callsign "Bandit".
On 20 January, 2015, Junior Sergeant Bodnaryuk performed a combat mission to transport the personnel to support the defenders of the Donetsk International Airport. On the way back from the airport, Oleksandr carried out the task of evacuating about 10 wounded soldiers when their MT-LB (a multipurpose conveyor light armored) was subjected to the fire of Russian-terrorist troops who fired a BM-21 "Grad". As a result of the shelling, MT-LB was destroyed, and Oleksandr Bodnaryuk was considered to be missing. Only on June 16, 2015, the body of Oleksandr Bodnaryuk was identified through DNA testing.
On 18 June, 2015, he was buried in the cemetery of Anadoly village, Khotyn district.
On 21 July 21, 2015, according to the decision of the XXXIII session of the Khotyn district council, Oleksandr Bodnaryuk was awarded the title "Honorary citizen of Khotyn district of Chernivtsi region" (posthumously). On 14 September 14, 2015, in the village of Anodoly, Khotyn district, on the facade of a secondary school (Shkylnaya street 1), where Oleksandr Bodnaryuk studied, the memorial plaque was established.
He was awarded the Order "For Courage" of the 3rd class (22.09.2015; posthumously), the Order of the People‘s Hero of Ukraine (07.05.2016; posthumously) and the breastplate "For the Defense of Donetsk Airport" (posthumously).
