Chyzh Oleh Volodymyrovych was the commander of the department of the 2nd heavy self-propelled artillery battery of the 30th individual mechanized brigade of the Army of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a soldier.
He was born on 31 May, 1988 in the city Riga (Latvia). Together with his family he lived in the city Novograd-Volyn, Zhytomyr region. He graduated the secondary school №7 of Novograd-Volyn, Novograd-Volyn industrial-economic technical school, in 2011 - Zhytomyr State Technological University.
In 2007-2010 he served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served first on a time military service as an electrician driver, then - under the contract of a master of the 30th individual mechanized brigade of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (military unit A0409, the city Novograd-Volyn, Zhytomyr region).
On 11 March, 2014 he was mobilized to the Armed forces of Ukraine. He served as the division commander of the 2nd heavy self-propelled artillery battery of the 30th individual mechanized brigade of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (military unit A0409, the city Novograd-Volyn, Zhytomyr region).
Since 17 July, 2014, he participated in an anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine. Participant in fighting for strategically important height Savur-Mohyla (Shakhtarsk district, Donetsk region), behind the village Stepanivka, Shakhtarsk district, Donetsk region.
On 13 August, 2014, soldier Chyzh died during the fighting in the village of Stepanivka, Shakhtarsk district, Donetsk region. Since then, he was considered to be missing. In January 2015, he was identified among those killed for the DNA testing.
On 30 January, 2015 he was buried in the cemetery of the village Yablunets, Emilchinsk district, Zhytomyr region.
He was awarded the Order "For Courage" of the 3rd class (22.09.2015; posthumously).

On 13 October, 2015, in Novograd-Volyn city, a memorial plaque was established on the building of the secondary school №7 (Zhytomyrska Street, 124) in honor of the graduates, who died during the anti-terrorist operation in the east of Ukraine, including the name of Oleh Chyzh.
