Gurniak Viktor Petrovich was the journalist, photographer, member of the National Scout Organization of Ukraine "Plast" fighter of the 24th battalion of territorial defense "Aydar".
He was born on June 8, 1987 in the village Gorodnitsa Husyatyn Ternopil region. He graduated the secondary school №27 city of Ternopil, and in 2006 - Technical College of Ivan Puluj Ternopil State Technical University (now - Technical College of Ternopil National Technical University Ivan Pul‘uj) speciality "Maintenance of computer systems and networks."
At age 14, he entered the National Scout Organization of Ukraine "Plast". He belonged to the circle of "Grey Wolves", which entered the booth number 29 Yuriy Starosolskyi. In 2004, he became one of the founders and first smoking booth number 77 Ivan Havdydy. Later he joined the 15th battalion USP "Order of the Iron jail» named after Svyatoslav Conqueror.
He educated the youth group "The Eagles." He was the deputy of educational work and the Village District formation wire. He managed the information section of the Ternopil layers. He was the organizer of many stocks and regional commandant (Ukrainian) camp "Legion-11".
He worked in the daily newspaper "20 Minutes" and was editor of the journal reservoir "Blossom of Ukraine." He participated in projects of the Institute of Political Education and the International Republican Institute.
He headed in Ternopil the youth public organization "Foundation of Regional Initiatives" was the press secretary of the party "Pora" in Ternopil region. He worked as a photographer for the news agency "UNIAN", photographed for the international news agency REUTERS. Together with friends he founded fotoagency LUFA. In 2014 he joined the online project INSIDER.
In winter 2013-2014 years he was in Independence Square in Kiev, where he was an active participant in the Revolution of dignity. And in March 2014, as a photographer Victor Gurnyak went to Simferopol, he could not be apart of the events that unfolded in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea during the occupation of the peninsula by the Russian military, which also assisted the Ukrainian military, who were locked in their parts.
Since the beginning of anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine, he repeatedly went to the combat zone as a photographer and a volunteer.
In July 2014 Victor Gurnyak co-founded the military-patriotic organization "Ukrainian legion".
In the summer of 2014 voluntarily he joined the 24th battalion of territorial defense "Aydar" (now - 24 separate assault battalion "Aydar" Army of the Armed Forces of Ukraine military unit V0624).
Starting September 2014, he took part in the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine.
On October 19, 2014 he was killed during the mortar attack while trying to take a car wounded comrades from the battlefield, near 32nd checkpoint near the village safely Slavyanoserbsk district, Luhansk region.
In October 22, 2014 he was buried on the honorary burial №83 Lychakiv cemetery Lviv.
On June 3, 2015 in Ternopil on the facade of the Technical College of Ternopil National Technical University Ivan Puluj (street Kurbas 13), where Victor Gurnyak studied , the memorial plaque was established.

He was awarded the Order "For courage" of III degree (10/31/2014, posthumously), Plast Iron Cross (posthumously), Plast Bronze Cross for heroic work (04/18/2015, posthumous) award "People‘s Hero of Ukraine" (23/06/2015; posthumously), Honorary citizen of Ternopil (18/08/2015, posthumously).
