Khoptyar Serhiy Viktorovych was the assistant of the commander of the Platoon of the 53rd Detached Mechanized Brigade of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Senior Soldier.
He was born on 27 May, 1996 in the village Sokolivka, Yarmolinetsi district, Khmelnytsk region. He graduated the secondary school of the village Sokolivka and Yarmolinetsi Professional Lyceum (urban-type settlement of Yarmolyntsi, Khmelnytsky region), specializing in mechanic repair of cars and a driver.
In July 2014, he was called up for the regular military service to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. After some time he switched to military service under the contract.
During 2014-2016 he participated in an anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine.
As of the summer of 2016 he served as the assistant of the commander of the platoon of the 53rd individual mechanized brigade of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (military part of field post V0927, the city of Severodonetsk / Lisichansk, Luhansk region).
Since March 2016, he took part in an anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine again.
On 19 August, 2016, at lunchtime, Ukrainian positions near the town Zaytsevo of Horlivka City Council (from September 2016 - Bakhmut district),Donetsk region were subjected to sudden short-term bombardment by terrorists. At this time, the senior soldier Khoptyar traveled with his friend to the post and did not have time to hide in the shelter. As a result of the explosion, grenades from automatic grenade launcher Serhiy Khoptyar received the numerous fragile injuries to the stomach and neck. His friend was easily wounded in the leg, as the bulk of the fragments fell into Sergeant Khoptyar. Serhiy Khoptyar died of serious injuries.
On 24 August, 2016, he was buried in the cemetery of the village Sokolivka in the Yarmolinetsi district, Khmelnytsk region.
He was awarded the Order "For Courage" of the 3rd class (25.11.2016; posthumously).
