Katsabin Serhiy Borysovych was the pharmacist of the medical supplies department of the 1st individual medical company named after Pirogov of the Northern Territorial Kyiv National Guard of Ukraine, the reserve soldier.
He was born on 22 April, 1983 in the city Kozyatyn, Vinnytsia region. In 2000 he graduated the secondary school №2 of the city Kozyatyn, then - a medical school in the specialty "Feldsher". He worked as a medical brother in a psychiatric hospital in the town Glevakha, Vasylkiv district, Kyiv region, and then a nurse of emergency medical care. He studied on the correspondence form of study at the National Medical University named after A.O. Bogomolets at the pharmaceutical faculty.
With the onset of hostilities in eastern Ukraine, Serhiy Katsabin was a volunteer- doctor. During the summer-autumn of 2014, he helped the medical assistants of the 2nd Reserve Battalion of Operational Assistance (from July 2014 - the operational battalion named after General Sergey Kulchytsky) of the National Guard of Ukraine near the city Slovyansk, Donetsk region and on the position "Cross" (the city Debaltsevo, Donetsk region).
From 31 December, 2014, he served in the 1st private medical company named after Pirogov of the Northern Territorial Kyiv Department of the National Guard of Ukraine (military unit 3001, the city Kyiv).
Since January 2015, he participated in the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine.
On 9 February , 2015, the crew of the sanitary car of the 7th automobile sanitary unit, which included Mikhaylo Balyuk and Anatoliy Sulima, along with the assistant of the National Guard of Ukraine Serhiy Katsabin, left the position "Cross" (city of Debaltsevo, Donetsk region) for the evacuation of the wounded before the city of Artemivsk (now - Bakhmut), Donetsk region. On the way to the city, near the village Logvinov, Artemivsk district, the sanitary car got into ambush and drove to the mine (according to other sources, it hit an anti-tank grenade launcher). As a result of the explosion, four servicemen, including Serhiy Katsabin, who was considered to be missing since then, died. One wounded managed to escape, he threw him out of the car with an explosive wave.
On 21 December, 2015, Katsabin Serhiy was declared dead by the decision of the Kozyatyn city district court of the Vinnytsia region and set the date of death on 9 February, 2015.
Until April 2016, he was listed on the missing list, after an examination of the DNA it was found that he was buried, as an unknown soldier, at the Krasnopilsk Cemetery in the city Dnipro.
On 22 April, 2016, he was reinstated at the Koziatin Cemetery.
He was awarded the Order "For Courage" of the III class (March 21, 2016; posthumously), the Order of the "People Hero of Ukraine" (07/24/2016, posthumously).
On 11 November, 2016, in the city of Kozyatyn, on the facade of the building of the secondary school №2 ( Heroes of Maidan street, 2), where Serhiy Katsabin studied , the memorial plaque was established.
